It’s September in Florida. As much as I’d like the weather to feel like “fall”, it’s not so much. However, we are pretending in the classroom! I’m sharing some fall classroom ideas down below for teaching reading. These fall literacy activities are split with Kindergarten/First and Second/Third. We will also discuss some of our favorite Fall Read Alouds for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Second and Third Grade Fall Classroom Ideas
This time of year, we are reviewing parts of speech. My students needed a variety of ways to practice parts of speech. We build up to common and proper nouns.

I added party bags and fall leaves to these centers to change up our routine a bit. Students LOVED them and they store so easily in ziplock baggies!

Fall Literacy Activities for Kindergarten and First Grade
A few years ago, I had some advanced Kindergarten students that needed enrichment. So, I used the same idea from my third graders and applied it to Kindergarten during Fall. I just added the party bags and leaves to our reading activity.

Fall Classroom Ideas Read Aloud List
One of my favorite books to read in October is The Old Haunted House.
As a teacher, I love this book because it is full of adjectives.

The Three Bears Halloween is a cute story to discuss fractured fairy tales and parts of speech. It’s similar to the original story but has a cute twist. I love how many adjectives are in the book and how easy it is to discuss Halloween safety.
